Manchester United will need to significantly increase their offer for Aaron Wan-Bissaka after Crystal Palace rejected their opening bid of £40million for the right-back.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to sign a top-quality replacement for Antonio Valencia, who has been released at the end of his contract, and England Under-21 international Wan-Bissaka has been identified as the ideal successor.

United are keen to get their summer business done early and reportedly made a ‘substantial’ offer for the right-back in the past few days.

However, The Telegraph report that Palace have rejected that bid, worth in excess of £40m including bonuses, and are adamant they do not want to lose one of their outstanding players from last season.

United are expected to return with an improved offer, though Palace believe Wan-Bissaka is worth an astonishing £60m – a fee that could prove too steep for United.
