Pitching coach Don Cooper will miss the rest of the Chicago White Sox's 10-game trip while he recovers from a bout of diverticulitis. Cooper, 57, remains hospitalized at Inova Hospital in Arlington, Va. Once Cooper is released, he will return to his off-season home in Nashville to continue his recovery. Cooper has been hospitalized since Tuesday. Bullpen coach Bobby Thigpen will continue to serve as pitching coach, with bullpen catcher Mark Salas handling Thigpen's duties. Curt Hasler, the Sox's minor league pitching coordinator, will join the team Friday in Cleveland to assist in the bullpen.
