Just in time for the conclusion of training camp Leafs defenceman Cody Franson will rejoin the Maple Leafs. Projected to be a top four defenceman again this season Franson had been holding out because of a contract impasse with team management. But the big blueliner has agreed to a one-year term worth $2 million. Throughout the holdout Franson had been seeking a one-year deal while the team wanted to lock him up for a longer term. Ultimately however Franson’s camp has settled for less money but got the length of the deal they had bargained for. Franson who was a restricted free agent had a breakthrough season for the Leafs last year and was regularly in coach Randy Carlyle’s second pair. He also played in key power-play situations. At a meeting with season-ticket holders on Wednesday night Leafs general manager Dave Nonis said the team was still interested in getting the deal done.
