Always painfully thin, Clay Buchholz seems to have fallen through the cracks once again. More trees and more gigabytes have been sacrificed writing about chicken and beer and the quest for a fourth and fifth starter for the Red Sox this spring than have been expended discussing Buchholz' efforts to come back from — it seems difficult to underplay this fact — a broken back! In polite medical circles and in Red Sox press releases Buchholz' problem is known as "a stress fracture of the lumbar spine." In the Buchholz household and the rest of the world it is known as a broken back!
