Cincinnati has placed men’s basketball coach John Brannen on paid administrative leave, effective immediately, athletic director John Cunningham announced on Saturday.
The university announced an external review into allegations related to its men’s basketball program on March 26. Brannen's suspension will last until the review is complete. It is believed the review is exploring the potential of for-cause firing of Brannen. There is currently no timeline for the review to be completed, according to sources.
The Athletic previously reported that a rift between Brannen and certain Bearcats players led to a mass roster exodus in recent weeks. Six players entered the transfer portal in the span of a week in March, including four members of the 2020 freshman class.
