Christian Yelich had to pull out of the Home Run Derby due to a sore back, but the Milwaukee Brewers star will participate in the All-Star Game itself.
On Monday, Yelich said he pulled out of the Home Run Derby due to the “volume of swings” it would take but is healthy enough for the All-Star Game.
#Brewers Christian Yelich says he will play in All-Star Game. Is the leadoff hitter for the NL. Says he pulled out of HR Derby because of "volume of swings" it requires. Obviously, feels comfortable enough to play in the game itself, which is good news.— Tom (@Haudricourt) July 8, 2019
Oakland Athletics third baseman Matt Chapman replaced Yelich in the Home Run Derby, which will take place Monday night.
