Chris Tanev has hired a player agent to assist him in consummating a contract with the Canucks. Tanev, 23, a pending restricted free agent, will be officially represented by Vancouver-based Ross Gurney, whose NHL clients include Norris Trophy winning defenceman Duncan Keith of the Blackhawks, Pittsburgh winger Tanner Glass and Colorado forward David Jones. The paperwork is expected to be signed and processed on Monday. The young Canucks defenceman had begun negotiations with the Canucks with the assistance of his father, Mike, in mid-May and the two sides have had preliminary discussions. At the time, Mike Tanev said that if at some point in the process professional advice were needed there would be no hesitation to bring an agent on board. “In the best interests of Christopher, we have decided to get an agent involved at this stage of the game,” said Mike Tanev on Monday morning from his Toronto home. “His expertise will hopefully bring this to a quick conclusion.”
