Don’t you just love how early-season baseball stats can be inflated? You know, the whole so-and-so “is on a pace” to do something ridiculous. Like the San Francisco Giants’ Brandon Belt — a great name for a slugger, by the way — is on a pace for about 100 home runs. Or, on the other hand, the Orioles’ Chris Davis is on a pace to hit zero home runs. Through eight games, Davis has yet to hit his first homer of 2014 after clubbing a league-leading 53 last year. Even though the Orioles erupted for 14 runs on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, a Davis home run wasn’t part of the offensive mix.
