The Chiefs signed Gilyard in February. This makes the fifth time Gilyard has been cut by an NFL team. He was drafted at the top of the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft (99th overall) by the St. Louis Rams. He hung around for the 2010 season but was cut after the last preseason game in 2011. He was then signed and cut by the Jets Eagles and then the Jets again before landing with the Chiefs and Andy Reid. The Chiefs now have an open roster spot. Though Eric Fischer has yet to sign a contract he is counted against the team’s roster number. That means the Chiefs aren’t cutting Gilyard to make room for Fischer but they could be cutting him to make room for someone else.
