Chelsea will test Manchester United’s desire to keep hold of in-form Wayne Rooney with a new £35million bid in January. The Blues had two offers for the England striker rejected in the summer and manager Jose Mourinho appeared to resign himself to the fact that Rooney will remain at Old Trafford for the long-term. The speculation that the 28-year-old was unhappy at United has also cooled after a string of impressive displays for club and country this season. However, according to reports in one Sunday paper Chelsea are willing to test the water one last time with a bid in the new year. Despite the improving form of Fernando Torres, Mourinho is still desperate to add another world class striker to his squad and sees Rooney as the ideal man to spearhead a double tilt at the title and Champions League.
