Tammy Abraham has made a surprise U-turn and rejected a loan move to Wolves to remain at Aston Villa.

The Chelsea loanee had looked set to swap the Championship for the Premier League, with the Blues preparing to cut short the 16-goal striker’s stay at Villa Park.

Abraham didn’t train at Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training ground on Monday and had been expected to move.

Wolves, who had been initially interested in an £18million move, agreed a loan until the end of the season, albeit with no option for an outright purchase.

But the England striker has informed his parent club that while he would be willing to discuss a permanent transfer, he isn’t keen on merely swapping one temporary home for another when all roads lead back to Stamford Bridge.
