Chelsea have to be considered as Premier League contenders next season, believes Ally McCoist, who insists the Blues have made a "proper statement" in the transfer market.
After a largely promising debut campaign, Frank Lampard now looks to make significant additions to his squad, with Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva all expected to join Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech as high-profile summer signings.
The Blues secured a Champions League spot in finishing fourth in the Premier League last season, also falling marginally short in the FA Cup, where they suffered defeat to Arsenal in the final.
Lampard's side finished a staggering 33 points behind champions Liverpool, however, but McCoist insists Chelsea will be far more competitive at the top next season, which starts in under three weeks' time.
Of Chelsea's transfer activity and subsequent title credentials, McCoist said: “You’d have to consider them.
