Ohio State coaches prioritized Chase Young while building their 2017 recruiting class. Of course they did.
It didn’t take Inspector Clouseau to notice the five-star defensive end shedding blocks and leaping for interceptions on film.
Urban Meyer met Young when he was a high school sophomore. Buckeyes defensive line coach Larry Johnson was a constant presence at DeMatha Catholic in Maryland.
“We are knee deep in that school, and Larry Johnson knows those people so well,” Meyer said by telephone. “Every chance I had, every opening, I would go see him.”
Did Meyer expect Young to be this good?
“It’s hard to forecast this,” he replied, “because he is the best player in college football.”
