That doesn’t include Andre Drummond, however. Those have been the words of former NBA star Charles Barkley the past few weeks in regard to a pair of underachieving Detroit pro sports teams, the Pistons remarks coming Friday night during the NBA Rising Stars game in which Drummond participated. Drummond scored 30 points, grabbed 25 rebounds and was named MVP of the game that featured all rookie and second-year NBA players. Barkley, now an “NBA on TNT” analyst, ripped Drummond’s Pistons during a break in action. “He’s a terrific player who’s playing with those other idiots up in Detroit. And they’re not going to win,” Barkley said. When the rest of the “NBA on TNT” panel, including Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith, questioned that statement, Barkley continued: “They’ve got some idiots on that team. They’ve got some talented players who are not going to ever get it.” Last month, Barkley told Rich Eisen on “The Rich Eisen Podcast” that the Lions, fresh off an underwhelming 7-9 season, had no clue how to play football, saying having talent doesn’t mean it will lead to success.
