Yoenis Cespedes was placed on the disabled list this morning with a sprained muscle in his left hand and according to manager Bob Melvin, the hope is that he will be out only the required 15 days. Cespedes hurt the area between his thumb and index finger on the outside of the hand with an awkward, tumbling slide in the eighth inning. Melvin said that Cespedes’ sliding technique was not an issue; Cespedes slipped or caught his spikes, causing him to roll rather than to slide. He jammed his hand as he tried to stop himself. Outfielder Michael Taylor, off to a hot start at Triple-A Sacramento, flew in from Reno this morning to take Cespedes’ roster spot.
