The question was standard postgame stuff, something along the lines of what this game means to Jaylen Brown. On any other night, under any other circumstances, Brown might have talked of the thrill of toppling the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors. On any other night, under any other circumstances, he might have talked about the thrill of rallying from a 17-point deficit in a 92-88 win over that Dream Team from the Bay Area. On any other night, under any other circumstances, he might have gone big picture: 14 consecutive victories! Only this was no ordinary night for Jaylen Brown, and the circumstances of his personal turmoil made it difficult to talk basketball for basketball’s sake. And so when that first innocent, let’s-get-the-ball-rolling postgame question was delivered to Brown, the 21-year-old rookie stared straight ahead for a full 11 seconds before speaking.
