If there is a person alive from whom CC Sabathia wouldn’t mind getting the hook, it might be Alex Rodriguez. Sabathia gave a full-fledged endorsement of Rodriguez as a potential manager — if not directly as the Yankees one — before A-Rod neither denied nor confirmed having any interest in taking Joe Girardi’s spot. After Sabathia brought up the vacancy on a Players’ Tribune podcast posted Wednesday, trying to entice Rodriguez, the Fox Sports analyst said he hadn’t considered life in the dugout. “I’ve never thought about that,” said Rodriguez, who then hinted again he would follow the Derek Jeter path. “I’ve always thought that one day ownership could be interesting.” Brian Cashman was asked directly about Rodriguez on Monday, when the general manager said he wouldn’t rule anyone out for the job. However, the chances of it actually happening are remote. Still, if Rodriguez changes tune and wants to lead an organization, Sabathia thinks he’s cut out for the job.
