The Canadiens selected right-winger Cole Caufield with the 15th overall pick at Friday night’s NHL Draft at the Rogers Arena. Canadiens captain Shea Weber announced the selection.
The 5-foot-7, 157-pound Caufield played this season with the USA U-18 team, posting 58-24-82 totals in 57 games while playing on a line with Jack Hughes, who was selected No. 1 overall by the New Jersey Devils.
“If you’re going to do one thing, you’d better do it really well,” one scout said about Caufield in The Hockey News Draft Preview. “And he scores and he just scores and scores. His one-timer is outstanding. He is a true scorer. He can score in a number of ways, but his one-timer is elite.”
