Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mark Streit has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of mutually terminating his contract, according to Elliotte Friedman. CapFriendly reports the mutual breakup will save Montreal $654,839 against their salary cap. Montreal had been trying to find a trading partner who would be willing to take Streit, but couldn’t find anyone. He had become the odd man out after the team got David Schlemko back on their defense and the and the emergence of rookie Victor Mete made Streit expendable.
