Montreal Canadiens netminder Carey Price is unlikely to return to the team before Christmas, according to his head coach Dominique Ducharme. The 34-year-old spent the last offseason recovering from knee surgery and a hip injury before joining the NHL's player assistance program for substance use just before the start of the regular season in October.
"It's day-by-day with him," Ducharme said Monday. "At this point right now, Dec. 6, it's unlikely he's going to be back before Christmas. When is he going to be on the ice in his equipment? Tough to tell, but we don't think we're going to see him before Christmas."
