The Montreal Canadiens announced Wednesday that captain Brian Gionta will undergo surgery Friday to repair a torn left biceps and will not return this season. Gionta hasn't been in the lineup since May 5, when he notched one assist in a 6-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Gionta had 14 goals and 26 points in 48 games for the Canadiens in 2012-13. Gionta, who completed his fourth season in Montreal, has 231 goals and 445 assists in 695 career regular-season games.
