The Canadiens filled one of the holes on their blue line Thursday when they acquired left-handed defenceman David Schlemko from the Vegas Golden Knights in return for a fifth-round draft choice. If you count the 15 hours Schlemko spent with Vegas after being selected in Wednesday’s expansion, the Canadiens are Schlemko’s seventh NHL team. He previously played for Arizona, Dallas, Calgary, New Jersey and San Jose. The 30-year-old is known as a puck-moving defenceman with good mobility. He played on San Jose’s third pairing last season. He has played 360 NHL games with 17 goals ad 70 assists. He’s not very big at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds and is not particularly physical. Schlemko has three years remaining on a contract with a cap hit of $2.1 million. That leaves the Canadiens wth about $21 million in salary cap space.
