Former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton has advanced to the semifinals in the balloting to pick the player for the cover of the "Madden NFL 15" video game. Online voting ended on Thursday in the quarterfinal round to select the cover subject, with Newton advancing past Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles with 58 percent of the votes. That was closer than Newton's previous match, when the Carolina Panthers QB polled 80 percent of the votes against Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown. Newton is matched against Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck in the semifinals. Luck received 54 percent of the votes in his Round of 8 matchup against Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy. The winner from the Newton-Luck vote will be matched in the finals against either Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman or San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Newton reached the finals of the cover vote for "Madden NFL 13," but was defeated by Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Sherman pulled in 65 percent of the votes against New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham and Kaepernick got 58 percent of the votes against Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly to reach the semifinals.
