Earlier this week Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck suffered a laceration on his leg from a skate and coach Jack Capuano said he'd miss 'some extended time.' On Friday we found out how long that is. The Isles announced that Clutterbuck is going to be out of the lineup for 4-6 weeks. That leaves a timeframe for a return to be in mid-October to as late as November 1. That stings. The Isles had a spot for Clutterbuck on the wing as they acquired him in a trade from Minnesota this offseason in exchange for Nino Niederreiter. He figures to fit in well with the bruisers the Islanders have already it's just going to have to wait a little. What this should do is give prospect Ryan Strome a chance to show what he can do. There is a spot open to where they could give him a good look before making a decision whether to keep him on the roster or send him to AHL Bridgeport. Clutterbuck had four goals and six assists last season in 42 games. He played 74 games in 2011-12 and had 15 goals to go with 12 assists.
