It was lost in the hullabaloo over 500th home runs and generous Air Force servicemen, but Tuesday night’s Nationals-Angels game featured more base-running drama from Bryce Harper. Three days after being benched by new manager Matt Williams for a “lack of hustle” on the base paths, Harper did it again, half-heartedly jogging out a grounder in the fourth inning on Tuesday. Matt Williams spoke about his hustle rule with The Sports Junkies on Wednesday morning. “If you never touch the bag, you can never be safe.” Harper touched the base all right, in the same manner of a child at dinner who is told to finish his vegetables, then does so by shoving them all in his mouth at once. He followed the letter of the law, if not the spirit.
