Jay Bruce, a late-inning defensive replacement, hit a two-run walk-off home run to lift the Reds over the Chicago Cubs 8-6 in 11 innings Thursday night. Joey Votto doubled to lead off the inning. Bruce hit the next pitch way out to right for his 31st of the year. It was Bruce's first walk-off of the year and third of his career. What was left of a crowd of 23,792 on a fall-like night (61 degrees at the start) at Great American Ball Park loved it.
