Manager Bruce Bochy had much more on his plate Friday than managing a game against the Dodgers in rain and hail. Throughout the day he also monitored Sergio Romo remotely to make sure the closer did not jeopardize his arm in the World Baseball Classic. Romo threw 26 pitches in Mexico's loss to Italy on Thursday night. To put that in context, he threw that many in a game just once in the 2012 regular season, 27 in his first game April 8. The Giants' concern was Romo pitching against the United States on Friday night without a day off after such a heavy workload. Had he thrown 30 pitches Thursday instead of 26, he would have been forbidden by rule from pitching Friday. "To be honest," Bochy said, "I wouldn't have minded if he threw four more."
