Browns first-round pick Barkevious Mingo is rocking his "firsts.'' On his first NFL play he recorded a sack. In his first NFL start Sunday he registered his third sack in as many games displayed his blazing speed off the edge and tackled rookie Giovani Bernard 14 yards behind the line of scrimmage where the Bengals running back had recovered a botched snap. The Bengals never recovered from the mistake and were forced to punt en route to a 17-6 loss. Mingo who started in place of Jabaal Sheard (knee) also made four tackles and blew up several other plays for which he didn't get credit on the stat sheet. "I just wanted to come out and do what I could do to help the team win'' he said. "We came out and we stoned them and we've just got to keep it going forward. "It's fun out there. I enjoy being out there with my teammates. You hate looking in from the sidelines.'' Is his current success all the more sweet because he missed the opener with a bruised lung? "As football players we have to overcome stuff'' he said. "It's just part of the business.'' Mingo went against his longtime friend and left tackle Andrew Whitworth who hails from the same hometown of West Monroe La. "It was great to go against a guy I've looked up to for so long'' he said. "He's a guy that I was taking tips from when I was in high school and college. He told me I played a good game and good luck in the future.'' Mingo who runs a 4.4 in the 40 was asked if he could beat speedster Travis Benjamin in a footrace. "I wouldn't be a competitor if I said him'' he said. "I have to say me. But realistically (smiles). ... I'll win.'' Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson has been impressed with the LSU product.
