Peyton Manning did not sound like someone who lost the NFL most valuable player award. Instead, the Broncos quarterback seemed genuinely pleased to win the NFL comeback player of the year award. Manning almost won both awards, but an unprecedented late-season surge by Adrian Peterson pushed the Minnesota Vikings running back to the MVP award. Peterson received 30½ of the 50 MVP votes, with Manning getting the other 19½ . "I have nothing but great respect for Adrian Peterson. He had an outstanding season, and I was just grateful to have been a candidate," Manning said outside the Mahalia Jackson Theater, where the NFL Honors Awards Show was held Saturday night. "Tonight, I have nothing but appreciation for the people to help me go out there and play."
