Just two days after being struck in the back of the neck making a diving save on San Jose’s Brent Burns, Martin Brodeur will start in net for the Devils tonight against the Winnipeg Jets at Prudential Center. Brodeur’s neck was “sore” after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to the Sharks, but otherwise he was fine. He was checked out by the doctor Saturday night and underwent an X-ray just to be sure. “Everything was good,” Brodeur said this morning. “No damage or anything.” Devils coach Pete DeBoer said he talked with Brodeur to make sure he was OK to play and saw no reason not to start him tonight. “We had a conversation with him,” DeBoer said. “He had no effects from it. He feels good and wanted the game, so that was good enough for me.” As for how Brodeur feels, DeBoer said, “He feels good. For 41 and flying across the country, I think he feels better than I do today.” Ondrej Pavelec will start in net for the Jets. *** Defenseman Adam Larsson will miss tonight’s game with a lower-body injury he sustained when he lost an edge and crashed into the boards in the third period Saturday. Rookie Jon Merrill, who was called up from Albany this morning, will take Larsson’s place in the lineup and be paired with Peter Harrold.
