Brighton look set to miss out on Rennes striker M’Baye Niang after Marseille entered talks to sign him.

Niang, who once enjoyed a loan spell in the Premier League with Watford, has been on Brighton’s radar for weeks.

The Senegal international scored 15 goals in 36 games in France this season and recently admitted he was flattered by interest from England.

A former AC Milan striker, Niang is being offered to clubs around Europe as his club look to cash in.

And Marseille are now favourites to land him after offering him a five-year deal to stay in France.
