Jake Arrieta, Alex Cobb and Lance Lynn are still free agents. But their market is starting to heat up again, according to Jon Morosi. In fact, up to six teams–including the Brewers and Nationals–are monitoring their status. The Nationals are favorites to take the NL East again this season while the Brewers look to build on their surprise 86-win season. But losing the Yu Darvish sweepstakes to division-rival Chicago hurts. That’s why the Brewers still find themselves in on the others. After adding Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain within 30 minutes of each other back in January, Milwaukee definitely boasts a depth-filled outfield. But it’s their starting rotation that still needs work. Jimmy Nelson is not going to be the same upon his return. Then after Chase Anderson and Zach Davies, it’s all up in the air. Jhoulys Chacín is a solid 4-5 option, but that’s probably his peak. Morosi elaborates on the interest: “The issue isn’t a lack of interest. One source said Saturday night that the Brewers, Yankees, Phillies, Rangers, Orioles and Nationals are among the teams continuing to monitor the top available starting pitchers.” As for the Nationals? That’s a little tougher.
