In a good sign for Brad Richards’ availability for tonight’s game against the Flyers, beyond the fact that the Rangers did not recall an extra forward from Connecticut (AHL), the center is on the ice for yet another very well-attended morning optional skate. LW Arron Asham (back) and G Henrik Lundqvist, presumably tonight’s starter to conclude this season-high four-game homestand, are the only team members not on the ice. Stu Bickel remains as a forward in Asham’s absence. Richards took yesterday’s practice off to receive treatment following Patrick Kaleta’s cross check from behind, which earned the Sabres’ forward a five-minute major, a game misconduct and a five-game suspension. Forgot to mention this in the blog yesterday (but not in today’s article in The Record), Kaleta’s five-game suspension means he won’t be available for the Sabres when the Rangers visit Buffalo next Tuesday. Also from today’s Record, here are my thoughts on the change the NHL made to its draft lottery yesterday.
