The Red Sox have placed reliever Heath Hembree on the IL with a right elbow extensor strain.

Hembree had posted a 0.52 ERA (one earned run, 17.2 innings) and .119 batting average against over his past 20 outings.

“Just one of those that we’d rather stay away from him for a while,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. “He should be fine around the 10 days. ... Just be careful with him. He’s been throwing the ball so well that we don’t want to take the chance. So we made the move. He feels he should be fine sooner rather than later."

The Red Sox have recalled Josh Taylor, who has allowed six runs in 5 innings for Boston this year.
