Manager Bruce Bochy said Monday before Game 2 that he is leaning toward Tim Lincecum following Matt Cain in the rotation and pitching Game4 in St. Louis. Also, in a development that nobody could have foreseen before the playoffs began, Bochy said he probably will choose between Madison Bumgarner and Barry Zito for Game 5. "This will be a decision that won't be made until after Game 4," said Bochy, who is not ready to cement his plans beyond Cain in Game 3 because he does not know which starters he might use in relief beforehand. Even as he mulled Lincecum for a Game 4 start, Bochy was ready to use him out of the bullpen in Game 2 after he pitched two innings in Game 1. When Lincecum came to work Monday he told Bochy he could go. Bumgarner has allowed 10 runs in eight innings over his two playoff starts. He and catcher Buster Posey said after Sunday's six-run night that Bumgarner's pitches lacked their normal life. His fastball velocity was down from the usual 91 or 92 mph to 89. Bochy, however, does not believe Bumgarner's situation is that dire. "If I thought his stuff had dropped that dramatically, I'd be worried about it," Bochy said. "He still has good stuff, but he's making mistakes. He still has the stuff to execute pitches. It's not like he's throwing 85, 86. His stuff is still good. His delivery is off sometimes. That concerns you a little bit."
