The Toronto Blue Jays have placed left-hander Matt Gage on unconditional release waivers for the purpose of contract termination, the team announced on Monday.
Gage, a 10th-round selection from 2014, was designated for assignment last week after the club made Chad Green’s two-year, $8.5-million contract official.
Gage’s departure from the organization is a little surprising, especially considering Tim Mayza is the sole left-handed reliever on Toronto’s 40-man roster, excluding Yusei Kikuchi.
