It almost seems like a guarantee that DeMar DeRozan will be leaving the San Antonio Spurs in free agency in the coming weeks.

DeRozan was traded to the Spurs back in 2018 as part of the blockbuster deal that sent Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors.

While he never wanted to be traded from Toronto, DeRozan accepted a leadership role with San Antonio in recent seasons. This season, DeRozan may have earned himself a decent contract in free agency after operating as a small-ball power forward.

DeRozan concluded the 2020-2021 season with 21.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and a career-high 6.9 assists per game.

Even though his outside shot leaves much to be desired, DeRozan is going to have teams clamoring for his services this offseason.

Ahead of what should be a busy offseason for the veteran wing player, these are some of the best and worst destinations for DeMar DeRozan in free agency.

Good Fit: Dallas Mavericks

When conjuring up a list of ideal fits for DeMar DeRozan, the Dallas Mavericks appear to be a perfect landing spot. It won’t be long before the Mavericks move on from Kristaps Porzingis and Dallas needs another ball handler to pair with Luka Doncic.

The Mavericks have a few capable three-point shooters on their roster and they could add more of them this offseason.

Provided that, Dallas doesn’t need DeRozan to be a lights-out outside scorer, but rather a mid-range threat that can create for others.

DeRozan isn’t going to address the Mavericks’ need for rim protection, as he could end up being their small-ball power forward. But at the least, he would take pressure off of Doncic and give them someone else to run their offense through.
