Lance Berkman's surgically repaired meniscus in his right knee feels fine and his swing is showing signs of life. But the St. Louis Cardinals' 36-year-old first baseman is unfazed by the possibility that he will be in a platoon role with Allen Craig for the rest of the season. "We've got a surplus of guys now for our lineup spots. Everybody deserves to play, really," said Berkman, who began Monday batting .283 (17-for-60) with one home run and five RBIs in 20 games. "Really, you could make the case that everybody but me deserves to play. I'm OK with that. "I think the development of young guys is fun to watch and I don't want to retard A.C.'s development in any way. He has certainly earned a place in the lineup, and however Mike (Matheny) sees fit to use me, I'm perfectly fine with it."
Berkman has no issues with diminished role with Cardinals
