After being recognized as the NHL's First Star of the Month for January, it appeared last night Patrice Bergeron was not about to waste any time getting a leg up on the league honor for February. Judging by his performance in the Bruins' 6-3 thrashing of the Dallas Stars before a TD Garden sellout crowd of 17,565, Bergeron emerged as an early contender after he tallied a pair of goals in Boston's four-goal frenzy in the first period. He missed out on a hat trick when he shot wide of an empty net late in the third, and then eschewed a second bid by assisting on Brad Marchand's empty-netter at 17:40. Bergeron was simply returning the favor for the goals Marchand set up for him.
