The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Washington Wizards, 118-113, on Wednesday night. But that’s not the big story here. What is, is the fact that the two teams combined to shoot 101 free throws in a 48-minute game. 76ers point guard Ben Simmons isn’t known for his shooting stroke, which could be why the Wizards forced him to the line so many times down the stretch. The 24 free throws he shot by himself in the fourth quarter are a new NBA single-quarter record. He finished the night 15-for-29 overall from the line, with a final stat line of 31 points, 18 rebounds, and four assists. Simmons was joined by teammate Joel Embiid in the frequent flyer miles to the free-throw stripe, as Embiid went 13-for-18 in his own right.
