Baylor has extended the contract of football coach Matt Rhule on a deal that will run through March 31, 2028, the school announced Sunday night.

In his third season, Rhule has Baylor off to a 4-0 start and receiving votes in the AP Top 25 following a 23-21 last-minute win over Iowa State. Rhule had originally received a seven-year deal when he was hired from Temple following the 2016 season.

Rhule has been the subject of NFL head coaching rumors following each of his first two seasons, with the Colts in 2018 and the Jets this year. Besides an endorsement for the job Rhule has done rebuilding Baylor, the extension could send a message about his long-term intentions to recruits.

Salary and buyout terms were not immediately available. As a private school, Baylor doesn't have to release financial terms.
