Having made the decision to transfer from Arizona to Baylor as a graduate student in January, quarterback Anu Solomon was one of the players competing for the starting job under first-year head coach Matt Rhule. On Tuesday, it was reported by Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports that Solomon will get the nod when the Bears open the 2017-18 season on Saturday evening against Liberty. Solomon, who reportedly beat out both sophomore Zach Smith and freshman Charlie Brewer, is the most experienced of the three options with regards to playing at the Division I level. Solomon made 27 starts in his four years at Arizona, including 14 starts as a redshirt freshman. An All Pac-12 honorable mention that year, Solomon was the first quarterback in program history to start the season-opener as a freshman.
