As if Bayern Munich is not on enough of a roll, the Bavarians are being seriously linked to one of the breakout stars of the Champions League quarterfinal round, RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, per Sky’s Kaveh Solhekol.
Sure, most Bundesliga fans already know that the 21-year-old Frenchman is a terrific talent, but Upamecano’s superb showing against Atletico Madrid has opened up the eyes of many more pundits and supporters.
According to Solhekol, Upamecano’s recent contract extension with RB Leizpig will not preclude him from making the jump to the Rekordmeister next summer:
Arsenal are one of many clubs who have been watching him but he has now signed a contract extension at Leipzig until 2023, although that is unlikely to get in the way of a move to Bayern Munich next summer.
One caveat to Bayern Munich’s transfer activity could be how clubs manage finances through next season as, it remains to be seen if there will be any revenue generated from ticket sales and other in-stadium cash streams.
While Upamecano is assuredly one of the Bundesliga’s brightest young defenders, the Bayern Munich backline is already a bit crowded and there would need to be some space cleared for a move to take place.
