The Colorado Avalanche advanced to the Western Conference Second Round and will play the Vegas Golden Knights or San Jose Sharks.

The Avalanche defeated the Calgary Flames 5-1 in Game 5 on Friday to end that first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series.

The Golden Knights lead the Sharks 3-2 in that best-of-7 series with Game 6 at Vegas on Sunday.

Colorado, which was the second wild card in the West, will begin the series on the road against either Pacific Division opponent.

The Avalanche were 2-1-0 against the Golden Knights this season. Nathan MacKinnon led Colorado with four points (one goal, three assists), Tyson Barrie had three points (one goal, two assists), and Matt Calvert scored twice. Philipp Grubauer was 1-1-0, allowing five goals on 80 shots (2.54 GAA, .938 save percentage). Semyon Varlamov made 40 saves in a 3-0 shutout Feb. 18.

Paul Stastny had four points (two goals, two assists), and Alex Tuch had three points (one goal, two assists) for Vegas. Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves in a 2-1 win Dec. 27. Malcolm Subban lost two starts, allowing seven goals on 68 shots (3.54 GAA, .897 save percentage).
