The Colorado Avalanche selected center Alex Newhook with the No. 16 overall pick on Friday night at the 2019 NHL Draft at Rogers Arena.

Newhook, 18, just finished his second season in 2018-19 with the Victoria Grizzlies of the British Columbia Hockey League, the same league that produced Avalanche forward Tyson Jost. He led the league with 102 points (38 goals, 64 assists) in 53 regular season games en route to being named the BCHL's most valuable player. In 15 playoff contests, Newhook recorded 24 points (15 goals, 11 assists).

The St. John's, Newfoundland, native was named one of Canada's top three players at the 2019 IIHF U18 World Championship where he produced 10 points (five goals, five assists) in seven games.
