A dominant performance by Matt Duchene was just too much for the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night. Duchene's two goals and one assist led the Avalanche to a 4-2 victory over Carolina at the Pepsi Center, upping Colorado's record to a gaudy 9-1. The Avalanche put 18 shots on net in the first period and two goals, yet their worst stretch might have been on a lengthy 5-on-3 power-play advantage. Other than a Nathan MacKinnon one-timer from the left circle, the Avs didn't do a whole lot on the two-man advantage. Otherwise, Erik Johnson and Duchene scored goals. Duchene's will see plenty of time on highlight shows. At the 17:33 mark of the period, he did a spin-o-rama that froze the Carolina defender, then snuck a shot through the back door to make it 2-0. Former Littleton resident Drayson Bowman cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal 12 seconds into the second period, but Alex Tanguay got that goal back midway through the period. The veteran left winger one-timed a centering pass from Duchene in the corner to make it 3-1.
