The bonding between Browns new tight end Austin Hooper and Baker Mayfield began even before the Browns made him the highest paid tight end in the NFL.

“I was in contact with Baker before I signed,’' Hooper said on a Zoom call with Browns media. “At the end of the day, that’s how it works, to be honest with you. You want to get a feel for the person you’re going to work with. I told him that I like to work, do stuff in the offseason. He was ready, more than willing.‘'

Hooper spent time with Mayfield at his home in Austin, Texas shortly after he signed in March, and then again about a month later. The two spent time working on their timing, and also did some boating and other recreational activities together. The second go ‘round was during Camp Mayfield, a small group throwing session for about nine Browns players.
