Former Red Sox first baseman Mitch Moreland has agreed to a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Athletics, a baseball source said Thursday morning. The deal, which includes $250,000 in performance bonuses, was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Moreland, now 35, stays on the west coast after finishing the 2020 season with the Padres. In Oakland, he’ll serve as the primary designated hitter while also getting some time at first base.
