Copa del Rey finalists Athletic Club and Real Sociedad have released a joint statement calling for the showpiece game to be played in front of fans.

The two Basque rivals were due to meet in the Copa final on April 18 in Seville, only to see the fixture postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

LaLiga are currently working on a plan to restart behind closed doors after six weeks of inactivity because of Covid-19, but Athletic and Real Sociedad insist their final must be played at a date when fans are able to attend.

"The presidents of Real Sociedad and Athletic Club, finalist clubs of the Copa del Rey championship for the 2019-2020 season, after meeting with the president of the Spanish Football Federation, have agreed to ask the RFEF that the cup final be held with public and officially, with doors open, on an upcoming date to be determined by an agreement between the three parties," they said in a statement on Monday.
