Astros infielder Alex Bregman, who has hit 11 home runs in his last 24 games, will participate in the Home Run Derby as part of the 2018 MLB All-Star Game festivities.
The announcement came the day after Bregman hit two home runs against the A's, the first multi-homer game of his career.
"I'm excited," Bregman said after the Astros' 8-3 loss to the A's. "It's going to be fun, something that you watched as a kid growing up. I'm definitely excited to participate."
Bregman, who made his major league debut less than two years ago, has a team-high 19 home runs this season, matching the number of longballs he hit in 2017. Bregman leads the American League in homers (14) and OPS (1.085) since the start of June.
